What started as a small passion project for my son by has since launched into a large, passionate idea for a community of STEM educators keen to share their stories and evidence-based practice with other teachers around the world.

You can teach a student a lesson for the day, but if you teach him to learn by creating curiosity he will continue the learning process as long as he lives.

STEM education is an experiential learning pedagogy in which the application of knowledge and skills are integrated through in-context projects or problems focused on learning outcomes tied to the development of important college and career readiness proficiencies.

Who benefits from STEM?

However, teachers do not carry the whole burden of STEM education. Parents also must encourage their children to pursue STEM activities and increase awareness and interest at home and in extracurricular activities of the merits of STEM education.

Reevaluating how the physical classroom structure could better support inclusion, peer discourse, and ongoing engineering design innovations; making a commitment to advocate for a comprehensive STEM education that begins in preschool and continues post–high school; and actively promoting diversity in STEM education for all students.

Parents corner

Studies show that family involvement is one of the biggest predictors of success in school. That’s why parental involvement is so important. Seek opportunities to explore science at home and in the community with your child. Encourage them to keep asking questions, just like scientists. Let them know you don’t have all the answers, and together try to find them. We also encourage you to get involved at your child’s school and connect with teachers to learn more about changes in science instruction as they occur. And, help inspire children by exploring careers in STEM fields.
